    Brief History
Kristen idrettskontakt (KRIK) is a Christian Sports Organization for youths in Norway that was established in 1981 by Kjell Markset. It was started to create a chance for Christian Sportsmen and Women to have a place to meet for Christian Fellowship. KRIK wants to include all youths, independent of their sport level, and the important objective is to participate rather than to win.

KRIKs ob- Raise awareness to a Christian life style:
  • Win people for Christ.
  • Guide people through topics in Christian faith ethics and sport.
  • Create joy through sports.
  • Challenge the youths to be leaders and take responsibility for sports in their local groups.
  • Develop friendship and contacts between youths.
In 1993 KRIK was challenged by Stromme foundation to start with a sport program for Stromme partners in East Africa. In the collaboration with Stromme foundation, KRIK started to spread the KRIK idea about sport and education to Stromme partners in East Africa. Stromme and KRIK are still close partners in the sport and education project in East Africa.

KRIK Sandnes was the first KRIK group from Norway that travelled to East Africa, and they started in Kabale and Kisoro in 1994. KRIK Sotra started the work in Mbulu – Tanzania in 1995, and Global KRIK Oslo did start in Eldoret - Kenya in 2002. Global KRIK Trondheim brought the idea to Sudan in January 2004. The KRIK idea have also been brought to countries like Peru (Global KRIK Tromsø), to India (Global KRIK Bergen and Global KRIK Oslo) and Madagaskar (Global KRIK Agder).

The KRIK idea was brought to the dioceses and the different churches by Norwegian youths from KRIK. The idea was adopted by many churches, and has been in success in the East Africa countries like Uganda and Tanzania. In 2004 Kenya and Sudan also started with the sport project and number of participants is raising in this areas today. We can say that CHRISC is a big organization at the grassroot level in East Africa, with connection to local societies and churches all over East Africa.

CHRISTIAN SPORT CONTACT was established as an organization in February 2003, and got a structure with boards at district level, national level and a regional level for East Africa. The vision of CHRISC is to "Empower young people in East Africa through sports, education, health information and the Christian faith."

Today CHRISC is established in 22 districts in East Africa, and have a total number of 17 500 members (15.03.06). Every district has the focus of education, health information and the Christian faith in the training session, and the sport activities is a good tool for to gather youths. Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya have national offices, and national boards that are planning the activities at a national level.

Financial support for this project today: NORAD is funding half of our budget. Local sponsors and gifts from KRIK members are covering the rest of the budget.
