Brief History

Global KRIK Oslo started with KRIK project in Eldoret in 2001. This was the first project of KRIK in Kenya. Bildøy Bible School had already been in Msambweni (Mombasa) every year since the year 2000, but Msambweni was not under the CHRISC umbrella before 2003. Nairobi and Kisumo started their activities by inputs from Norway in 2003. Makueni and Voi are new districts in Kenya, and started activities in November 2004.

Nairobi got their new national board in February 2004, and Mike Wachira was employed as the first National Coordinator in February 2005.

ACTIVITIES AT DISTRICT LEVEL

ELDORET

Global KRIK Oslo had their first visit to Eldoret in 2001, and Eldoret was the first region in Kenya that started with the KRIK program. There are two operating arms in Eldoret namely; Street children programme and slum Children Programme. The youth in this programme participate in CHRISC activities and are positively influenced by it. The youth form apart of the CHRISC Impact Football teams, in the senior and junior categories.

PARTICIPANTS: Currently in Eldoret there are 320 participants and most of them are actively involved.

MSAMBWENI

Bildøy Bible school has the cooperation with Msamweni and have visited this area several of times. It is the teacher Helge Nilsen and his students that have spread the idea to this area. Set up in a mission station where plenty of activities can be held.  This is a great influence to the youth, but due to the Muslim euphoria, it’s very difficult to penetrate into the community and this poses as one of the biggest challenges.

PARTICIPANTS: Msambweni has a group of between 30 and 50 members, that most of the practice regulary.

VOI

CHRISC Voi was launched in November 2004 with the help of teachers and students from Hogtun Folkeskole in Norway. The entrance was great and we anticipate positive influence in the community.

PARTICIPANTS: Around 50 Youths are involved in the program. 28 leaders have been trained through Hogtun Folkehogskole.

KISUMU

CHRISC  Kisumu has stood high in cooperate development and partnership. This partnership has earned the participants great opportunities in skills development and also empowerment. It’s divided into 4 major zones namely;

        i.            Kotieno

       ii.            Ramba

     iii.            Opanga

    iv.            Kokwanyo.

This growth is a positive launch pad for the progress of CHRISC activities in Kisumu.

PARTICIPANTS: In its establishment and influence, CHRISC Kisumu has attracted 1156 participants actively involved in the activities.

MAKUENI

This is the last initiated group in Kenya. The leaders are enthusiastic and willing to sacrifice their efforts in the growth of the organization  in the area. The leaders are optimistic that Makuweni will serve as a launch pad to the rest of eastern province.

PARTICIPANTS: Initiated a CHRISC league/tournament, which attracted a total of 12 teams and 264 participants. Certificates shall be awarded to the winners and runners up and all the participating teams. Has around 65 active members in the program

NAIROBI

Being the central district it has now established itself as a niche as it continues to expand. In it’s expansion strategy. It has demanded quality and excellence since there are other organizations within reach. The major challenges are to ensure that this prestige is maintained and integrated as it  goes by.

PARTICIPANTS: Within a couple of months, a strategy was initiated as a springboard to the growth of the organization. In the East side of Nairobi we divided it to Northern and Southern. In the Northern we have 6 zones and Southern 8 zones. At least in each zone we have a representative. In the District leadership we have 20 leaders of whom 4 are female leaders.

-          active participants are around 800, whom 100 are female.
